How to install a black oak tread?

When installing a black oak tread, the process differs depending on whether you’re replacing an existing tread or installing on a new flight.

Replacing an existing tread

Remove the old tread, tidy up the substrate and check that the step is level using a spirit level. Then, apply wood adhesive to the top of the riser and place the new black oak tread into position, making sure to wipe any excess adhesive away. Then, secure each from beneath using structural screws.

Installing a new tread

To install a new black oak tread, all you have to do is follow the installation instructions above, except you don’t have to remove an old tread - it’s as easy as that.

What are the benefits of using black oak tread in staircases?

There are numerous advantages to investing in black oak treads:

  • They’re durable - Oak is a very sturdy and strong hardwood, able to withstand impacts and wear exceptionally well,  perfect for use on staircases.
  • They’re easy to maintain - Given their dark surface, black oak treads easily hide dirt and scratches compared to lighter woods.

They look impressive - Black offers a beautiful, elegant appearance that adds contrast to home interiors and catches the eye.
