Oak Square Newel Post

An oak square newel post is a style of upright post that sits at the top, bottom or any turn of your stairs, anchoring the handrail and spindles in place. 

They feature square sections and measure 90mm x 90mm, engineered with an oak core and oak-clad faces for a seamless finish. You can choose unfinished or lacquered options and lengths from 1500mm up to 4200mm.

Oak is a hard timber that resists scratches and impacts better than softwoods like pine, which don’t hold up as well. Our oak square newel posts offer a modern appearance, ideal for contemporary interiors.

What’s more, you can choose an unfinished post if you want to paint over the oak.

Oak is a hardwood, so it's naturally harder and more durable than the Brazilian pine used in white primed parts. 

White primed parts are coated in white primer, ready to paint in any colour and cost less than oak. If you want to change the colour down the line, primed parts can be repainted, whereas oak needs sanding and refinishing.

Metal spindles offer a different look altogether. They’re slimmer, contemporary and often paired with oak handrails and newel posts for contrast rather than used as a like-for-like alternative to timber.

Dust them regularly, as dust can build up on newel posts and the rest of the balustrade. 

For a deeper clean, mix a mild wood cleaner with warm water, dip a microfibre cloth in the solution and wring out any excess before wiping down. Too much liquid can damage the timber and cause it to warp. 

If the post has a lacquered, varnished, or oiled finish, a wood polish or wax afterwards will help restore the shine.
