Choose oak for timelessness elegance

There’s a reason oak staircases have remained desirable for centuries - oak treads offer a beautiful and natural appearance that’s enduring and never loses its appeal.

It’s not just its rare beauty, but oak looks the part among most decors. This means you’ll never have to switch your oak treads out as you change your home decor, as they’re neutral and rarely look out of place.

So, if you want staircase parts that will serve you well for many many years, choose oak stair treads!

Long-lasting oak treads

If you want longevity and aesthetics, oak treads are the way to go!

Your steps need to be resilient to impacts, scratches, scuffs and stains in order to withstand high foot traffic, spills and heavy footsteps. Oak is a very dense timber with a close grain structure, making it very strong, hardwearing and resilient to warping.

This timber also boasts a naturally high tannin content, which helps prevent rot and ensures your new oak treads last longer.

Can I fit replacement stair treads over my existing stairs?

Yes - our replacement stair treads are designed to sit over the existing steps, allowing you to replace worn treads without ripping the whole staircase out. All you need to do is remove the old tread and replace it with one of our oak stair treads. This is one of the easiest ways to refresh and upgrade your stairs.

What's the difference between a bullnose and a standard stair tread?

Standard oak treads have a standard square-cut edge on all sides, perfect for staircases enclosed within walls or where stringers cover the edges. Bullnose treads feature a rounded edge on one or both ends to give a smooth and finished look where tread edges are exposed - they’re often installed at the bottom of stairs as this is the most visible part of your staircase.

How do GRP stair treads compare to oak treads?

Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) treads are tough, slip-resistant components commonly found in commercial and industrial settings but not usually in the home. Oak treads are a much better fit for home interiors, as they’re just as hardwearing and long-lasting but far more attractive to look at.

Are our oak stair treads solid oak or veneered?

Our oak stair treads are made from solid engineered oak, which means they consist of a thick real oak layer on top of a sturdy engineered core for added stability. This is different to veneered oak, which usually means a thin layer of oak on a cheaper, weaker core like MDF.

Why are hardwood stair treads best for staircases?

Hardwood stair treads, such as oak, are one of the best materials for use in high foot traffic areas, such as your stairs, as they:

  • Resist dents and scratches
  • Are long-lasting
  • Age beautifully
  • Can be sanded and refined down the line if they start to show signs of wear
  • Offer better long-term value
